Brian Silke is a Manager in our Wealth & Asset Management practice – read his career journey here.
The highlight of my career to date has actually been returning to the firm last September. I joined a start-up pharmaceutical company but I quickly missed the variety of my role with EY.
Having left as an Assistant Manager I re-joined fifteen months later as a Manager, which gave me increased confidence in my ability. It also showed that the firm is welcoming for people to come back.
What I love about my job is working with different clients on a daily basis. Each day there is a different challenge depending on what area of the audit we are working on. No day is the same and no client is the same. In the Wealth & Asset Management sector, I work with fund administrators, fund investment managers and on the audit of funds themselves. I also work as part of the People team in our Assurance practice.
At EY Financial Services there is a strong culture of coaching and providing people with the opportunity to grow and develop. In my current role I can now advise people and provide them with coaching to help them to develop into the business leaders that we need within the firm. I really enjoy this aspect of my work and get great enjoyment from it.
The team I work with is extremely diverse, with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures. Working with so many different personalities is really positive. It provides different points of views and has helped me to develop as a Manager and strengthen my people management skills.
Another aspect I enjoy is the firm’s emphasis on work-life balance, with initiatives like free gym membership and mindfulness training. There is a real focus on the wellbeing of our people and this also extends to flexible working, with the opportunity to choose our start and finish times or work from home when it is needed.
EY is continuing to grow and there are lots of opportunities if you want to develop or progress your career. The Assurance practice is currently hiring across all of our industry sectors – you can review all current vacancies here.
