Meet Damilola, a Senior Consultant in our Strategy and Transactions practice. In this interview, she tells us about her career journey so far and what made her make the move to EY Ireland.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Damilola Oladipupo, a qualified accountant from Nigeria. I joined EY Dublin Office in January 2023 and work with FSO Strategy and Transactions team. My capability is in transaction diligence.

My career journey began with a solid educational foundation that laid the groundwork for my subsequent endeavours. I have a degree in accounting with a distinction grade. This provided me with fundamental knowledge and skills.

After completing my studies, I joined EY Nigeria as an intern and rose to the position of senior associate within the Strategy and Transactions unit, gaining practical experience in a variety of projects that allowed me to develop a well-rounded skill set and a thorough understanding of various industries. As my profession advanced, I honed my skills and identified areas of specialisation that resonated with my interests and strengths.

I also recognised the importance of networking and building relationships with colleagues, mentors, and industry professionals. Engaging with a diverse range of individuals provided me with valuable insights, guidance, and collaborative opportunities that further enriched my career. Throughout my journey, I have remained open to new possibilities and embraced change.

Looking ahead, I am excited to continue my career journey with EY Ireland, embracing new challenges, expanding my knowledge base, and making a positive impact. I remain committed to personal and professional growth, seeking out opportunities to learn, innovate, and contribute to the success of both myself and the firm.

Tell me about how you made the decision to move to Ireland.

The decision to move to Ireland was a culmination of personal aspiration and the allure of new opportunities. Ireland’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and warm and friendly people added to the appeal of relocating. I was captivated by the country’s history, vibrant cities, and the opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture and expand my global perspective. The welcoming and inclusive nature of Irish society made the prospect of integration and building a fulfilling personal life even more enticing.

In making the decision, I conducted extensive research, connected with professionals already residing in Ireland, and sought guidance from mentors and advisors. I weighed the potential career opportunities, the quality of life, and the potential challenges that come with relocation.

Ultimately, the combination of professional prospects, cultural richness, and the chance for personal growth made Ireland an ideal destination for me. The decision to move required careful planning, but I was confident that Ireland would provide a platform for me to thrive both professionally and personally in a vibrant and welcoming country.

What was the move like?
Relocating to a new country involves immigration procedures, accommodation arrangements, and acclimatisation to a new environment. Throughout the entire phase, the EY Ireland onboarding staff were helpful. They provided comprehensive support for visa applications, work permits, and legal requirements to ensure a seamless transition.

EY provided me and my family with temporary accommodation while we searched for our permanent apartment. In addition, they assisted with providing information on local housing markets and establishing contact with real estate agents. EY also provided a relocation package to cover relocation expenses. This help to alleviate a portion of the financial burdens associated with relocating to a new country.

What advice would you give to someone considering the move to EY Ireland?

Moving to a new country and joining a new organisation can be both thrilling and challenging, in my opinion. Accept the experience with a positive attitude and be receptive to new opportunities and viewpoints. Immerse yourself in the local culture, investigate Ireland’s distinctive offerings, and make connections outside of the workplace.

This will enhance your overall experience and contribute to your personal and professional development. Keep in mind that everyone’s experiences differ, so it’s essential to gather information, evaluate your own circumstances, and make decisions that align with your objectives and aspirations.

EY Ireland supports professional development, promotes inclusiveness and diversity, is collaborative, and has a strong work ethic. Individuals are encouraged to bring their distinct perspectives and ideas to the table in a culture of respect, integrity, and excellence fostered by the organisation. EY Ireland places a significant emphasis on innovation, diversity, and the development of long-lasting client relationships. It offers opportunities for advancement, learning, and making a significant impact on the industry.
