On 22 May, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) launched the consultation process for the implementation of the revised Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II) and Regulation (MiFIR). A discussion and consultation paper have been published with a closing date for responses to the consultations of 1 August.

To discuss these regulatory issues, EY hosted a MiFID II breakfast briefing breakfast briefing in our office on Harcourt Street on Tuesday 29 July. We were joined by David Owens and Bryan Friel of the Central Bank, who presented on the current timelines for implementation and the next steps in the level 2 process underway at ESMA. This was followed by Sheila Nicoll, former Director of Conduct Policy at the Financial Services Authority, who presented on the investor protection issues in MiFID II and the implications for firms.

The slide deck from the event is available in the link below. If you would like to hear more about MiFID II or discuss any of the points raised at the briefing, please do not hesitate to contact me.
