EY Financial Services Ireland was proud to sponsor the Banking Payments and Federation Ireland Annual Retail Banking Conference on Monday, 12 June. The theme of this year’s conference was ‘an evolving retail banking landscape’ with three core topics explored throughout the day, namely Changing market dynamics in retail banking, Customer centric banking and ESG integration across the banking sector.
- Colin Ryan, FSO Ireland Managing Partner chaired an armchair discussion on opportunities and challenges facing the banking sector. The overarching mood was one of optimism, and all panellists agreed that it’s about having a purpose-led approach and continuing to build trust and reputation in the sector.
- Niall Corrigan, Partner, Financial Services Consulting gave a keynote speech and joined the panel to discuss the changing market dynamics in retail banking, particular when it comes to the customer experience.
- Gill Lofts, Global Sustainable Finance Leader, joined us from the UK from a panel to discuss ESG integration across the banking sector looking at progress to date and what lies ahead from a European perspective.
The Changing market dynamics in retail banking
Niall spoke about the need for banks to really zone in on the customer, and what they need and want from their bank. The customer journey is no longer linear, and the Irish market are more fluid in terms of where, with whom and how they chose to manage their finances. Those milestone ‘life moments’ are happening later in life, in terms of getting married, buying their first house and having kids, all of which are impacting the marketplace.
