As part of EY’s Partnership with the Financial Times we have contributed to a Risk & Regulatory supplement in the Davos edition of The Banker magazine, ‘From regulation to results’. The 16 page supplement includes comment and analysis from FT journalists, senior bankers and 7 EY spokespeople from across EMEIA, Asia-Pac and the Americas on global risk and regulatory issues. I am pleased to share this special report with you, and hope that you find its content informative and thought-provoking.

Banks across Europe, America and Asia face ongoing pressure to improve performance but within the constraints of strict regulatory demands. They need to address immediate regulatory requirements while simultaneously adapting business models and innovating for the future. Individual accountability and risk culture within the organisation are also coming under greater scrutiny.

The 2015 special report explores these themes in greater detail. A brief outline of the articles contained within the report includes:

  • The regulatory challenges of 2015 – Banks face a continued onslaught of regulation in 2015 as politicians fine-tune forthcoming legislation to toughen up the banking system.
  • Facing up to regulatory fragmentation – Differences in the content and timing of rules on resolution planning, structural reforms and derivatives are threatening to unravel cross-border banking models. This article includes parallels/comparisons in the Asian markets and tax implications.
  • Breaking bad banking – The risk of staff acting unprofessionally, unethically or illegally – has become a major concern for supervisors and banks. This article outlines the challenges provided by conduct risk management.
  • Banking: The next generation – The UK banking industry is opening itself up to new entrants in the hope that this will stimulate greater competition in the market. The early signs are that innovative new players could be doing exactly that.

Please do not hesitate to contact myself or your local EY contact for further information on these issues.
